Engaging Patients and Families in the Safety of Care Delivery
Patients and their family members and caregivers can and should play an active role when receiving health care services. Engaging patients and families in care delivery requires health literate care: information provided to patients and families needs to be clearly communicated, understandable, and actionable. Interactions between informed and engaged patients and skilled practice teams improves patient safety and health outcomes.
